Hello all, pardon the neophytic nature of the following, but I've been toiling with AMD's for the past year or so and i've kind of fallen out of the know for intel stuff.
I have a 1.8 ghz dell 8100 P4 (bought only b/c I could get financing :P) (geforce 3) I ran madonion's 3dmark and came out with a score of about 4000. I saw on their website someone got a 6000 with the same video card (Gf3, but I'm not sure of the exact vendor).
I am thinking about building my own system (p4) and I'm a bit confused by the new stuff. Do p4 mobos vary FSB speed like PIII's and thunderbirds did? 100/133?
First we’ll look at installing Intel’s CPUs, and then AMD’s chips. Release the small metal lever holding the CPU retention bracket to Intel’s LGA socket in the motherboard. Make sure that you line up the two guiding notches on the socket with the notches along the edge of your chip. Hello forum, I am writing because I wanted to install windows 8 on my pc. But since it is a Pentium 4 with a 3.2.motherboard ASUS P4C800, motherboard only supports Socket 478 and Socket 478 with no pentium 4 supports specific XD 'no eXecute'. There is no way to bypass this control?
Also, what is the difference between socket 423 and 478? Assuming that I was concerned with pure speed.. I'm leaning towards RDRAM for performance reasons..
Btw I tried to install 98 on that dell - and it did not like it one little bit. I downloaded mobo drivers. low level device drivers . it still did not run correctly.. The p4 mobos aren't 'too new' for 98 are they? Win 2k did not run the games very well, so I am currently dealing with win ME.
Thanks much
